Driving in Jamaica: What First-Timers Should Know
We drive on the LEFT side of the road. This is usually the biggest adjustment for visitors from North America and Europe (except UK visitors who are already used to it).
Roundabouts (traffic circles) – Yield to traffic already in the circle. Take it slow until you get comfortable.
Speed limits – Generally 50 km/h (30 mph) in towns, 80 km/h (50 mph) on highways. Speeding is strictly enforced.
Road conditions – Major highways are excellent. Rural roads can be narrow with potholes. Drive defensively.
Honking – In Jamaica, a quick "toot" often means "hello" or "thank you," not anger. Don't be alarmed!
Picking Up Your Rental Car at MBJ
